What makes mascara waterproof?
Generally, one of two ingredient categories are used to make a mascara waterproof: silicones and waxes. While silicones are good for adhering to the surface of lashes, naturally derived waxes like carnauba and rice bran wax are powerful binding agents that are resistant to water. These waxes are commonly used in a wide range of cosmetic products to achieve a sweat-proof, smudge-proof or waterproof formulation.

Our favourite tips for removing waterproof mascara
Tip #1: Cleanse afterwards.
After removing your waterproof mascara, follow up with a complementary cleanser like the Revitalift Re-Plumping Gel Wash. This is a hydrating facial cleanser with anti-ageing benefits that is formulated with hyaluronic acid to plump the skin and leave skin deeply cleansed, hydrated and smooth. Continue your skincare routine as usual.
Tip #2: Follow with eye cream.
Post-removal, consider hydrating the eye area with the Revitalift Eye Cream. Enriched with hyaluronic acid, this cream fills wrinkle areas and replumps the under-eye hollow tear area with daily use.
Tip #3: Avoid leaving makeup on overnight.
As we touched on earlier, it’s never a good idea to leave makeup on overnight. Doing so can clog pores, make the skin feel or appear sensitive or dull, and even cause premature signs of ageing – among other things. This is because when your skin can’t support itself correctly while you sleep, it can, over time, lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
Tip #4: Be gentle.
Always be gentle with your eye area. Actions such as rubbing or scrubbing can irritate the sensitive skin around the eyes, so remember to take it easy!
