FROWN LINES—WHAT EXACTLY ARE THEY?
As we start ageing, horizontal lines commonly appear on our forehead and around our eyes—which we refer to as “crows feet.” They’re often the first to rear their ugly heads, whilst vertical lines appear a bit later on. Vertical lines, better known as frown lines, are found between the eyebrows and around the mouth, making us look worn out and unhappy. The most pronounced vertical lines tend to be the lion’s wrinkle and marionette lines. The lion’s wrinkle is that annoying wrinkle between eyebrows we just can’t seem to get rid of. Marionette lines go from the corners of the mouth, down towards the chin, and also include the vertical lines around the lips.
WHY DO WE GET THESE VERTICAL LINES?
What exactly causes these lines? Gravity, a decrease in elastin and collagen fibres, plus repeated facial movements all lead to hollowed-out features that cause facial volumes to droop and collapse. Our skin becomes marked, and our faces can look quite unhappy. Plumping skin care is the best treatment for frown lines, if you find they are starting to appear. Similar to cosmetic surgery injections, an anti-ageing or anti-wrinkle product will fill in wrinkles and hollow areas, and also harmonise the volume of your face. The best part? This can be remedied from the comfort of your own bathroom! After using a plumping skin care product daily for 4-6 weeks, you should begin seeing significant, visible results.
OUR FOREHEADS SHOW OUR EXPRESSIONS
These particular wrinkles always seem to be a bit of a pain, whether you can easily spot them or not. They’re not only slapped in the middle of our face, but they also tend to make us look serious, angry and possibly even anxious. For those who are are particularly expressive, this slackening in skin can emerge as early as 35! Similar to the fine lines that give us crow’s feet, frown lines are brought on by various facial expressions that cause contractions in the skin, eventually turning into wrinkles. The more you frown, the more these lines will crease. Now, don’t go pointing fingers at yourself for showing your emotions! Frown lines are linked to the loss of elasticity and collagen, which is an unfortunate but unavoidable side effect of ageing.
GOOD NEWS — FROWN LINES CAN BE REDUCED
As we mentioned above, plumping skin care products with Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol serums can both help combat the number one sign of ageing. Cue the giant sigh of relief—these frown lines can be reduced after all! Pure Retinol is scientifically proven to visibly reduce wrinkles, with a powerful and effective concentration that can give you quick results. Try the Revitalift Laser Pure Retinol Night Serum, which is our most potent, highest concentration of Pure Retinol. It’s guaranteed to correct and fight deep wrinkles, age spots and uneven skin texture—all whilst renewing skin overnight. Pro tip: Always remember to use a facial sunscreen or broad-spectrum SPF moisturiser when using Retinol, as it sensitises your skin to UV rays. Your skin will need time to adjust to this powerful ingredient, so introduce it gradually and only use the product only at night.
We also recommend using the Revitalift Filler 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which blends two forms of pure Hyaluronic Acid to help retain skin’s own moisture, intensively rehydrate and plump out wrinkles. Your skin will be left looking fresh, supple and youthful! Both of these facial skin care products will strengthen the network of elastin fibres, increase collagen synthesis and encourage the natural production of hyaluronic acid—the perfect combination to restore your skin to its former glory. Try also relaxing your face and performing smoothing facial exercises as you apply these products.
Now that you know how to get rid of frown lines, it’s time to look after the entirety of your face—not just those little lines! Check out our guide on The Best Skin Care Routine for Ageing Skin.
