Eye wrinkles can have several different causes – we’ll go into the most common ones here, as well as offering some ways to reduce their appearance.
Dryness
If the skin around your eyes is dry, this can amplify fine lines and wrinkles. Fortunately, a moisturising eye cream or a serum can improve hydration and plump the skin, minimising the appearance of lines around the eyes including crow’s feet and under-eye wrinkles.
UV damage from the sun
The sun’s ultraviolet rays can damage the collagen in your skin, leading to a loss of plumpness and the likelihood of early wrinkles. To reduce wrinkles under eyes and crow’s feet forming prematurely, it’s best to wear an SPF to protect your skin – even on cloudy days!
Thinner Skin
The skin around your eyes is thinner than the rest of the skin on your face, with plenty of blood below the skin’s surface. As a result, the skin here will start to age earlier – you’re likely to notice lines and wrinkles around the eyes earlier than you might elsewhere on your face.
Time
As we age, the skin loses elasticity and cell renewal slows down. It’s no different around the eyes! This is all part of the ageing process, but we can manage it with the right skincare routine to reduce crow’s feet and an effective product regime for under-eye wrinkle treatment.
